At NECA/IBEW Local 48, we don’t just pay lip service to going green, we walk the talk. Our union hall, training center and many of our contractors are installing their own solar panels, demonstrating that our commitment to leading the way in sustainable and green technology is something we take very seriously. Read more below about our members who “Walk the Talk.”
E C Company is installing a 25 Kilowatt solar photovoltaic system on its corporate headquarters in Portland, Ore. When completed, 132 solar modules will sit atop this NECA contractor’s education center and adjoining roofs. This is one of many steps the union contractor is taking to move its corporate culture toward sustainability.
“We’re choosing to lead by example in the green construction marketplace”, said Jon Orrell, an E C Company construction director. “E C is in the renewable energy market and this solar array gives us a chance to provide some specialized hands-on training of our union electricians in the art of solar panel installation and solar design in our own backyard – I mean roof.”
The installation of the solar panels is one of the many reasons E C Company was recently recognized with a RecycleWorks Award — a Portland-wide program that recognizes local businesses for their commitment to being more sustainable.
Besides installing solar panels, E C Company also has an innovative corporate recycling program that includes a “green team” dedicated to identifying and implementing new environmentally friendly practices throughout the company.
