April 23, 2007

PORTLAND, Ore. - Oregon Columbia Chapter NECA and IBEW Local 48 recently graduated 62 apprentices, 52 men and 10 women, from the NECA-IBEW Electrical Training Center. Fifty-nine of the graduates are now recognized as licensed commercial electricians while three received their license as limited residential electricians. Dan Gardner, Labor Commissioner for the Bureau of Labor and Industries and IBEW member, was the event's keynote speaker.

The class of 2007 has had the privilege of training in an award-winning program emulated by chapters across the country. The apprentices have received hundreds of hours of classroom instruction in a 54,000 square-foot facility using state of the art equipment. They have been mentored by expert instructors, each with years of hands-on experience, and undergone hours of demanding on-the-job training, in preparation for their new careers in the electrical industry.

The National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA) Oregon-Columbia Chapter and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 48 have created an education partnership producing the most highly skilled and productive electrical apprentices and Journeymen in the country. NECA and IBEW Local 48 ensure that their members are prepared to lead the electrical industry into the future.
