NECA/IBEW 48 Training Center Offers Solar Installation Certificate

June 17, 2009

The NECA/IBEW Local 48 Training Center is now an approved institution offering North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP)Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge Program.

"We are very excited and honored to be able to offer this opportunity to the Portland community," said Rod Belisle, Training Director at the NECA/IBEW Electrical Training Center. "The class and the test are open to not only the IBEW 48 apprentices and journeymen, but to anyone who is interested."

The NABCEP Entry Level Certificate Program is designed for those individuals wanting to get into the solar field; it is a way for them to show they have achieved basic knowledge comprehension and application of key terms and concepts of photovoltaic (solar electric) system operations.

The certificate demonstrates that the student has passed an industry-designed exam based on learning objectives developed by subject matter experts. Certification offers the public a high degree of protection because practitioners have to meet standards or qualifications and pass an exam, and they do so voluntarily.

Before taking the test to become a NABCEP Entry Level Certificate of Knowledge holder, candidates must attend a Photovoltaic Basics class at the NIETC.

The NECA/IBEW Electrical Training Center is a 54,000 square-foot located on NE Airport way. The Training Center is equipped with solar arrays to train student apprentices can on proper installation techniques.
