Unions for Kids raised $50,000 for Doernbecher Children’s Hospital

June 19, 2009

The seventh annual "Unions for Kids" Motorcycle Poker Run continued its upward momentum by raising $50,000 this year. Fund-raising proceeds will again be awarded to Doernbecher Children's Hospital.

For the third year in a row, the raffle included a new Harley-Davidson motorcycle, won by Rom Hamaker, retired IUEC Local 23 member.

The event started and finished at the IBEW Local 48 union hall in Northeast Portland. Each rider paid a $10 entry fee to draw a poker card at five different stops along the 90-mile motorcycle route. A draw card could also be purchased for $5 at the end of the route. Those who drew the best and worst hands each won a prize.

This year's event was dedicated to Mark Kenney, Unions for Kids committee member. He passed away one day before the event.
