When Inland Electric Inc. was hired by Vernier software to install 128 photovoltaic solar panels, they didn't come into this green project “green.” Owner and co-founder Craig Benjamin has a long and rich history with renewable energy that has established Inland as one of the go-to electrical contractors for sustainable construction projects. A well-traveled electrician himself, Benjamin formerly worked on large scale solar projects as well as geothermal plants when employed with Baker Electric in Southern California.
Craig and Laurie Benjamin founded Inland Electric in 2000. Initially, they meant to keep the business small, anticipating that they would employ somewhere near 12 electricians. That number, however, was quickly surpassed before they'd even been in business one year. Today, Inland employs around 40 electricians. While that doesn't make them the biggest electrical contactor in the Portland area, they have made a name for themselves through their commitment to the highest quality of craftsmanship and by establishing themselves as leaders in the field of renewable energy.
Since their foundation, Inland has completed over 20 renewable energy building projects. In addition to the Vernier project, Inland Electric helped outfit the Torri Mor Winery in Dundee, Oregon with solar panels, completely covering the roof of one of their buildings in photovoltaic panels. Lately, Inland has added wind power to their growing repertoire of sustainable building projects. After successfully completing a wind turbine installation on the property of one of their own employees, Inland is currently starting another wind project for a private home owner near Salem.
In spite of Inland Electric's successes, Benjamin humbly sees themselves as “barely getting started” in exploring the booming industry of green and renewable construction. We commend the Benjamin family and all the employees at Inland Electric who have helped contribute to their success in green construction and who will continue to contribute to the company's success for years to come.
