McCoy Electric never says impossible. Instead, they just find a creative way to get it done. They demonstrated this in their approach to replacing the service switchgear in a 12-story office building downtown. The existing service had failed and the occupants were desperate to get their power back as soon as possible. While acquiring switchgear and having it ready to install can take as long as eight weeks, McCoy had it there in a couple of days. Yet, how do you get switchgear to the roof of a building that has no power to run its elevators? McCoy’s answer: a helicopter.
Such creative solution building comes from a family with a rich history in the electrical industry. Max Landon came to work for McCoy Electric as an apprentice in 1963. The company had been in operation under the McCoy name since 1945. Max worked in the field and the office in various capacities until purchasing the company in 1981. His wife Marlene came to work for McCoy at this time, overseeing the accounting. Last year, in January of 2007, they sold the business to their two sons, Jason and Ryan Landon. Max and Marlene are both still active in the business.
McCoy Electric prides itself on developing and maintaining customer relationships with both general contractors and owners. They place a high value on their integrity and try to act in the customer’s best interest at all times. McCoy does every type of commercial, industrial and residential work, specializing in critical facilities such as the communication industry. They have donated labor to various projects including the Architectural Heritage Center and the Hollywood Theater. In the coming years, McCoy plans on growing with their industry, expanding into “green” and other specialized markets.
