From manufacturing generators for World War II ships to charity golf tournaments, the electricians of E C Company have a long history of service to their communities. While the war effort is long past, the Portland-based company continues its philanthropy in many diverse ways, including the Loaves & Fishes Centers and their Meals-On-Wheels program.
The Loaves & Fishes kitchen produces 5,000 hot, nutritious meals five days a week for seniors that come to dine at the 31 centers around Portland and for those that are homebound through Meals-On-Wheels volunteer delivery drivers. Each week, E C employees take a company van and deliver meals around downtown Portland to homebound seniors.
“This is a great first hand reminder of how an hour or two can make a huge difference,” said E C’s president George Adams.
The idea of supporting these vital programs through a benefit golf tournament sparked E C Company to transform its own client golf tournament into “Drive for Meals-On-Wheels.” Thanks to E C’s efforts as the host and chief sponsor, the annual tournament has raised $78,000 the last three years. E C expects this year’s golf tournament to raise $40,000 for the charity, a record high for the tournament.
E C’s spirit of service extends from local communities to the rest of the world. In addition to sponsoring charity events like the golf tournament and supporting youth sports teams, E C Company assisted in building a much-needed school abroad.
“E C Company participates in many charities and believes it’s important to give back to the causes that improve the lives of those around us; our employees, our clients, our families, and our neighbors. Many of the causes we support are employee driven in some way,” said Adams.
E C Company’s selfless efforts deserve recognition for the many lives they have touched, from youth athletes to senior citizens. The company has shown the ability to mix fun with charity for the benefit of its employees and their greater communities.
